General Project Questions (tap here to open/close)

Do you charge for consultations?

There's no charge for the first meeting. However, any subsequent strategy meetings will be charged for. Our rate sheet will be discussed at the first meeting.

I'm not in Southwest Louisiana, can you still do my project?

Yes, we work with clients from all over the US and Canada and work just as well with regional and national clients as those closer to us.

We are a non-profit, do you have special rates or donate free work?

On occasion we will donate charitable work but due to our operating costs, work load and time constraints we are limited in what we can do.

I would like an estimate before we sit down to discuss my project. Is that possible?

Yes, you can submit a Request for Quote (RFQ) on our website but please keep in mind that the more information we have, the more accurate your estimate will be. While we offer free online quotes, we prefer to meet or conference call at least once so we can get a better information. If you would like an online estimate, you can fill our our online RFQ here.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, once we've met, discussed your project and you've decided to hire us, we will submit a full contract for you to sign along with our payment terms.

How soon can you start working on my project?

Typically, once you've sighed the contract and paid your deposit our team will get started working on your project. We do have limited development slots for larger projects but any scheduling issues will have been discussed with you prior to us submitting a contract.

How long will my web project take?

The short answer is 8 to 12 weeks depending on our schedule. We are a custom development company and prefer to give our full attention to each client which makes project slots limited. In addition, every project is different, and every client unique. We will give you an estimated time frame in your contract. We will always do our best to meet our projected completion date and/or your deadline.

How involved do I have to be in the design and development process?

Every client is different. In our years of experience, working together as partners yields the best results for our clients. We encourage our clients to get involved and stay involved from start to finish.

I want to hire GO Technology, how do I get started?

Awesome! Just complete our online RFQ or give us a call and we'll get the ball rolling.

What is an RFP and do I have to have one?

An RFP (request for proposal) is what some larger companies and government organizations submit to us outlining their project. It's usually quite detailed and includes much of the information we need to provide you with an accurate quote. If you don't have the resources in-house to put together an RFP you can fill out our RFQ here to get started.

Can you help me find the best name for my new business?

Absolutely. If you haven't already decided on a name for your new business we highly recommend that you meet with us first before creating your LLC, purchasing domain names, or making any other branding decisions. Once you've picked one out, it's really difficult and sometimes costly to change if you decide you've made a mistake. There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding on a company name such as how memorable it is, how marketable is it, how easy is it to logo, are there any good domains available for it, will it be searchable on the web or will it get overrun with competition, and many more things to consider. We can help you with every aspect of choosing a name for your new business. Come talk to us...the first meeting is free so you have nothing to lose.

I want to grow my business but I'm not sure where to start or what I need to do. Can you help?

Yes. That's what we do :) Just fill out our online RFQ and tell us as much about your business as you can.

Do you do re-branding, or can you re-design my logo?

Yup, we sure can. Just fill out our online RFQ and in the space to upload files, include your current logo for evaluation.

I already have an idea for the logo I want, can you just create what I have drawn out?

Yes, however we don't recommend that in most cases. When you hire us to create a brand or logo, we spend a lot of time researching your business, your competition and market segments before we decide on the right way to proceed. Your logo will go on everything from your web site to your business cards, letterhead, signage, vehicles, etc. Getting it right is one of the most important decisions you'll make for your new business.

Do you provide printing services?

We do not do printing in-house. However, we have excellent relationships with a variety of printers and print specialists we use for all of our projects. We can certainly help you out.

Web Design, Mobile Design and CMS Questions (tap here to open/close)

What is Responsive Design?

Responsive Web Design (RWD) in layman's terms, is the design approach and underlying technologies that allow a web site to be viewed on any device, independent of screen size or platform and still look good and get it's message and purpose across. In more technical terms responsive design uses media queries to determine the resolution of the device being served then through the use of flexible images, fluid proportional grid design and some cool CSS3, HTML5 and other technologies, the site sizes itself and collapses down to fit the screen so it's easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling.

Resize our site using your browser or come visit on your smartphone and see what a responsive site can do.

Why is Responsive Design important to me?

From mobile phones to tablets, slates, laptops, desktop PC's and even large screen TV's, users are visiting web sites from an increasing array of devices and browsers. With the proliferation of smartphones and WiFi/4G tablets, users are more and more likely to hit your site from a mobile device than ever before and the percentage of mobile viewers is climbing. If your web presence isn't responsive, viewers on these devices won't stay long or even return at all. All the investment you've made in your web site won't mean a thing if no one is looking at it.

As of 2012 over 70% of mobile users access the internet on their phone daily and one out of four smart phone users access the Internet solely from their phones.

My mobile provider has an inexpensive service that's develops websites. Why shouldn't I use them?

Most of these design services are very limited in features and cookie cutter in design. They may cost less in the short term but over the course of a year or so will cost you more than a custom site from GO Technology with much less impact and features.

Some firms have told me I need a mobile site and a mobile web app in addition to my website. Do I really need all of that?

No. While it's absolutely true that your website should be designed to work equally well on any device it's viewed from, any designer/design firm that tries to sell you a separate mobile site and web app is either trying to sell you the same thing two or three times, or they're not up on current web technology. It is unlikely that you need to have multiple sites and even less so that you need a custom phone app.

What is a CMS and why do I need it?

Great question! CMS stands for Content Management System and is the back end or administrative portal that allows you to edit and maintain content in your web site yourself. Having a CMS based website not only saves you time and money but it provides you with a quick way to keep the content on your website up to date and fresh.

What CMS do you use?

We prefer working with Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Concrete5 and ExpressionEngine for most websites. Joomla and WordPress make up over 75% of the top one million sites on web and are rock solid development platforms. For e-commerce sites we prefer Magento and OpenCart. We can also develop a custom CMS if you prefer or work in any number of other CMS platforms.

Can you register a domain for me?

Yes. We can register your domain(s) at a discounted rate.

Can you host my web site?

Absolutely! We have our own dedicated servers located in protected data centers that are monitored 24/7/365. Fees are typically dependant on the size of your site, the technology used and media stored/streamed. You can read more about our hosting services here.

Do SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services come with my new site or is it a separate service?

We build every site using the most up to date, best web practices. This is the most important factor in determining your placement in search engines. It is absolutely critical that your web site be developed with SEO in mind. Some firms are stuck using old development technology or simply "short change" you by poor design and using too many giant images where smaller/less images and more strategic descriptive text is better. This totally wrecks your SEO. So why do they do that? Because it's quick and much cheaper for them to throw up large images to take up space and most customers don't know any better.

That being said, we do offer extensive SEO services. You can read about them here.

I already have a web site but I can't find it when I search for it and I need help with my SEO. Is that something you do for sites you haven't developed?

Yes. We can help you with all of your SEO needs. You can read about them here. Please note, there is no "magic bullet" for SEO. Many companies claim they can get you to the top in days but this is very misleading. Their tactics are questionable and in many cases can do more harm than good. We can definitely look at your website and coding, analyze your ranking and give you a status report with our recommendations to help you rankings.

Please also keep in mind that if your site was poorly developed in the first place, we may either have to fix the code or in some cases completely rebuild the site. Either way, you will know exactly where you stand and what needs to be done.

Do you do mobile applications?

Yes, we create a mobile apps for both iOS and Android.

Costs, Timeframe & Other General Information (tap here to open/close)

How much does a website cost?

The cost of a well designed and built website is determined by so many factors it's impossible to give an estimate for your project here. Much like building a home, it depends on the size, materials and labor. Before we can give a rough estimate we need to know what the architecture will be and what features/how complex they are as well as the general size of the site. You can get a customized estimate/quote by filling out our RFQ here.

Why do websites cost so much?

Our rates are below the national and regional average and if you've gotten quotes from other credible design firms, we bet ours is very competitive and we feel the work is up there with the best in the business. There are many factors that go into the cost of a great website and it takes MANY hours of researching your competition and getting to know your business before we even start working on design and development.

Web technology is constantly changing and our developers spend much of their waking hours outside of work keeping up with it. They attend webinars, go to conferences and scour the web for new stuff. It's a never ending process of research and learning new things. As soon as you learn one language, the next version is on it's way and in the case of our developers, they are experts at multiple languages. Then you have to factor in the creative design that has to seamlessly go hand in hand with the technology, all surrounded by the marketing experience that wraps the whole project up into a package that works for YOU.

Lots of people claim to be professional web developers and do sites for dirt cheap. But the old adage, "You get what you pay for" almost always holds true. Many of our clients have come to us after spending money with other companies and either didn't get what they paid for, or it isn't working for them, or in some cases it was never delivered in the first place. Doing the job right even for the smallest sites takes an incredible team effort and many hours of development.

Why is creative design so expensive?

The basics are the same as above. Lots of work goes into each and every project no matter what it is and some very talented people who've dedicated themselves to being the best in their craft are working for you to achieve the perfect solution. None of this happens by chance. And none of it is cheap to provide. Even the tools, software and hardware we use to design and develop your projects is incredibly expensive.

I know a good web developer, is there a reason I need more than that?

Most "web developers" are strictly coders and not creatives. It takes both to make a great site and even better, when you have people that can do both equally well like we do. The creative has to work seamlessly with the technology to build a great site. When you're launching a new or re-designed website you need a team working together that consist of marketing and strategy, front end UI (user interface) design and web technology, coding and development. Many times you'll also need a great copy writer and even a photographer. You won't get that with most web developers.

I know a college student that I'm thinking about hiring to design my logo or website. What's wrong with that?

In all honesty, it comes down to one word... experience. College students are just learning their trade and have little to no experience doing commercial projects. Just like a carpenter, it takes years of experience before you can call yourself a master craftsman.

How long does it take to build a website?

The short answer is 8 to 12 weeks depending on our schedule. We are a custom development company and prefer to give our full attention to each client which makes project slots limited. In addition, every project is different, and every client unique. We will give you an estimated time frame in your contract. We will always do our best to meet our projected completion date and/or your deadline.

I see TV ads and Internet ads offering websites for $500. Why should I pay more?

Your website is likely the single most important part of your marketing strategy. For most companies, it's their cornerstone and that is only becoming more relevant with potential customers searching the web for products and services more and more. Again, the adage, "You get what you pay for" rings just as true here as elsewhere. Any website you only pay $500 for is going to be a "one size fits all" cookie cutter site and not the custom, targeted, well researched and designed site you would get from a credible creative development firm.

I see TV ads and Internet ads claiming they can create a logo for $150. Again, why should I pay more?

Your logo will appear on everything you do from business cards and letterhead to your website, vehicles and on and on. Designing a great logo is more than just the artwork. There's a lot of brand strategy that goes into logo design and only comes from hours of research about your business and your competiton.

Yes, you can have a logo created by those services for $150, but it will not be a very good one. In many cases it will likely be clip art (which can be illegal to use for a logo) and also may be used for a number of other businesses. So, don't be surprised to see it or one just like it on someone else's sign one day.
